Being the neigbour of Bordeaux, most of the varieties used are similar to that of Bordeaux. Even though they do not have such big reputation, some of the serious winemakers have made their wines very comparable to its neighbour in terms of the quality, while the price is totally another story.
The most interesting appellations of the region would probably be Gaillac, Cahors or Irouléguy, which are made of rare varieties: Tannat, Fer, Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng, Len de l'elh. With the influence of the global wine production, South-West are adopting their wine styles from rough and tannic to more fruity and light. This has made their wines easier to be loved in Hong Kong.
