The full name of Gamay is Gamay à jus blanc - white juice Gamay. It is a typical Burgundian grape variety. According to genetic analysis, it comes from a natural cross between Pinot Noir and Gouais, note for the story that these are the same parents of the Melon de Bourgogne. Gamay is the king grape of Beaujolais region and its 10 crus (Morgon, Moulin à Vent...) but it is also widely planted in the Loire Valley. It gives a wine with a beautiful bright and brilliant red color, with typical aromas of banana, english candy when vinified in primeur style (Beaujolais nouveau), or cherry, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, with mineral notes and peony, when it comes from the best terroir of the 10 crus.
