Grenache

Grenache

Grenache grape variety

Grenache is most likely from Spanish origin. It is widely planted all over the world, in Mediterranean climate areas, that are more suitable for its proper development. When grown on dry and stony soils, like in Châteauneuf du Pape, the wine is full-bodied with a beautiful golden red color. Wine made from pure black Grenache ages quickly, its color is oxidized and tends towards rancio. For ageing purpose, it is requested to blend it with other grape varieties. Its typical aromas are those of ripe stone fruits (cherry, prune, ...), blackcurrant, raspberry, cocoa, coffee, fig and licorice.
